What Do You Sow? Tomatoes!

TomatoesLast week, we had a contest on Facebook called Ready, Set, Sow! On our short entry form, we asked, “What seeds will you be sowing this year?” We got lots of feedback, including:

  • Tomatoes and lots of them!
  • Lots of herbs, lots of heirloom tomatoes, green beans, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, garlic, onion, potatoes, etc.
  • Lots of flowers!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I will be sowing seeds of love, peace, and wisdom. All my seeds will be heirloom and organically grown with love and blessings.

Using a tag cloud generator, we distilled the responses into the following representation. Clearly, tomatoes are at the top of the list, with peppers close behind. Did your favorites make the list?

Going to plant just about all of what you listed.

Um, so this is random but we’ve been getting your catalogs in the mail for a while and there are a lot of misleading, photoshopped ‘photos’ in there. Like the one this month, the cover which depicts a woman gardening behind the tall planterboxes is SO OBVIOUSLY fake. Who knows how many photos you used to create that image. I find it repugnant that you insist on misleading people. We won’t be ordering anything from you.

As a company of gardeners, we work hard to present our gardening products as they are. We also want to inspire you with beautiful photos. The Elevated Raised Bed in the cover shot was planted a couple weeks before we took the picture — and watered well to get it growing and abundant. Some of the plants we used were transplanted from our display gardens here in Burlington. All real; all part of the same image. And the woman in the photo, she’s one of our employee-owners. -David Grist, Gardener’s Supply
