Rooting for a Good Cause

To make good on our promise to support the gardening community, we’re lending a hand to Pete’s Greens, an organic farm in Craftsbury, VT. An early morning fire in January destroyed the farm’s barn, along with stored crops, meats, coolers and vegetable cleaning and processing equipment. To show our support, our stores in Williston and Burlington will match up to $2,000 in donations.

At Gardener’s Supply, we believe that gardening can bring about positive change in people’s lives, in our communities and in the environment. We donate 8% of our company profits to programs and organizations that are using gardening to improve the world. It’s a commitment we’ve adhered to since our first day of business back in 1983. One of our first big projects was founding the Intervale Center in 1985. What was once a landfill is now 350 acres of organic farms and national model for sustainability.

To make good on our promise this year — among other things — we’re lending a hand to Pete’s Greens, an organic farm in Craftsbury, VT. An early morning fire in January destroyed the farm’s barn, along with stored crops, meats, coolers and vegetable cleaning and processing equipment. To show our support, our stores in Williston and Burlington will match up to $2,000 in donations.

The farm’s year-round CSA, called Good Eats, provides Vermont locavores with organic vegetables, bread, grains, dairy products and oils. The employee-owners at Gardener’s Supply believe the locavore movement is important to Vermont’s economy and the overall health of the environment, so we “root” for Pete’s, hoping they’ll be growing again soon. Gardener’s Supply and our many employee-owners have been longtime advocates and supporters of the movement — whether it’s growing food in the backyard or purchasing from area farmers.

    Hiya!

Will you match donations that were already made? I did mine through the folks at Juniper Moon Farm (http://www.fiberfarm.com/2011/01/a-friend-in-need), but would love to see it go further!

    Hi Joelle,

It’s only for donations made at our two stores here in VT.
