The Value of Hedges

By late autumn the garden is fading fast and most herbaceous plants have all but disappeared from the landscape. In my perennial gardens, this means that means most of the visual interest has disappeared as well.

That wouldn’t be the case if I had some hedges. A recent trip to England reminded me what an important role evergreen hedges can play in the garden.

The gardens are lovely; however, Mr. Pat would not do that to our yard unless I learned how to operate a hedge trimmer! It is something to consider on a smaller scale.

I love hedges and have used them in my garden to accent my roses. I have large circular hedge plantings with roses planted in the center, and there are little entry ways and room to sit and enjoy on patio furniture. I also have Greek Cypresses, which I love. They add a great deal of beauty and absorb dust and noise. I would love to have a more formal garden, but perennials do so well here that I have let them take over most of the space.

Great company! I recently received a lovely lavender plant from my in-laws from your place, the pot was cracked, I called, a very pleasant employee was sending out a new pot. Not only did I get a new pot, it had a plant in it. How nice, and unexpected. I have ordered here also , always happy…I am spreading the positives of Gardners….Melanie
